Developed Access to Rural Water supply and sanitation in Luang Prabang Phase 2

Objectives

Improve the living conditions of rural populations through secure access to good quality water and managing its usage.

The project has four specific objectives:
  • Establish conditions to ensure the sustainability of water resources
  • Secure the supply of water to the collection point
  • Facilitate the adoption of hygiene practices and safe water management by communities, while minimizing the risks to the environment
  • Foster ownership of the project’s challenges by the stakeholders and get the general public to learn more about them.
Expected results
  • Management and water source protection plans developed in each village
  • 10 villages sensitized on water resource management issues
  • 10 water networks built and management committees trained
  • 150 households equipped with individual drinking water filters
  • 200 households with improved sanitation services
  • 400 pupils sensitized about hygiene
  • 6 school toilet blocks built
  • 3 wastewater management systems tested
  • 1 water department trained at Souphanouvong University
  • 1 national seminar on water resource management

Intervention area: 10 rural villages in the districts of Phonxay, Xieng Ngeun, and Chomphet, Luang Prabang Province
