Sustaining access to water and sanitation in rural areas of Luang Prabang Province

The objectives of the PERSEA project

Contribute to the fight against poverty in rural communities in Luang Prabang province through sustainable access to drinking water service, sanitation facilities, and safe hygiene practices.

The project has three specific objectives:
  • Improve sustainable access to drinking water in rural and peri-urban areas in 3 districts of Luang Prabang province through new management systems.
  • Improve hygiene conditions and access to sanitation in households and schools of the target villages.
  • Strengthen the capacity of local players to carry out their duties.
Expected results
  • 8 gravity-fed water networks built and 4 gravity-fed water networks renovated
  • 4,674 people benefit from secure access to water
  • 8 village water committees set up and 32 committee members trained
  • 559 pupils have access to a drinking water solution at school
  • 2,956 people sensitized to the risk of open defecation. 178 households acquire private latrines.
  • 5 school toilet blocks built (441 pupils)
  • 497 pupils sensitized about hygiene
 
Implementation period (project completed): June 2017 – May 2019

Intervention area: 12 rural villages in the districts of Phonxay, Xieng Ngeun and Chomphet, Luang Prabang Province
